Our program makes obtaining Barber and Barbershop Insurance simple, with flexible and affordable coverage, so you can focus on building your business.

Liability Insurance

Slip-and-falls, allergic reactions, and service mistakes can all lead to lawsuits. Our barber liability insurance is built to protect you from third-party claims involving bodily injury, damage to another’s personal property, or alleged negligence during business operations.

Property Insurance

Whether you lease or own your space, insurance for your barbershop protects equipment, furnishings, and supplies from damage or loss.

Optional Coverage Add-Ons

The coverages below can be added to your policy to protect against risks that fall outside of our standard liability coverage for barbers and shop owners.

  • Communicable Disease: Provides legal defense if a client alleges they contracted an infection or transmissible disease as a result of your negligence. This coverage is included in our policy at a $25,000 limit; you may choose to request a higher limit.
  • Assault & Battery: Coverage for physical altercations leading to bodily injury claims, offering both legal defense and indemnification. This coverage is included in our policy at a $25,000 limit; you may choose to request a higher limit.
  • Workers’ Compensation: Provides wage reimbursement and medical benefits for W-2 employees injured on the job.

FAQ

Most barbers need a combination of General Liability and Professional Liability coverage. General Liability protects you for slips, trips, or injury incidents on your premises. Professional Liability covers you if a client claims they were injured or dissatisfied because of a service you performed, for example, a cut, razor burn, or reaction to a product. If you own your own space, you’ll also want property coverage to protect your equipment, furniture, and contents. Our policies are designed specifically for barbers and can include all these protections in one package.

The average annual barber insurance premium ranges from $350 to $600 per year depending on location, services, and coverage limits. Independent barbers usually fall on the lower end while shop owners or barbers with employees working for them will pay more due to higher liability and property exposures. InkShopGuard offers affordable options that can be tailored to fit your business, whether you’re an independent professional or own a full barber shop.

Professional Liability (sometimes referred to as Malpractice or Errors and Omissions) protects barbers from claims that arise from services they perform. Examples may include:

  • A client developed a rash or infection from a service.
  • You accidentally cut or nick someone during a shave.
  • A client claims you caused hair loss or used the wrong product.

Professional Liability helps cover legal defense costs, settlements, and judgments, even if you did nothing wrong.

A barbershop insurance policy should include:

  • General Liability for injuries or property damage to others.
  • Professional Liability for service-related claims.
  • Property Coverage for furniture, tools, signage, etc. Inside your shop.
  • Business Income Coverage to protect your revenue if you can’t open due to a covered loss (like water damage or a fire).

Barbershop insurance pricing depends on your shop size, number of barbers, and the coverage you choose. Smaller, single-chair operations often start around $300-$600 per year. Multi-chair shops or those including property coverage typically fall between $1,000-$2,500 per year. Every shop is different, our policies are built to flex with your business, giving you the protection you need at a price that fits your budget.

Our policies are designed to give every barber and shop owner the protection they actually need, starting with the essentials and allowing flexibility to add more as the business grows. Every policy includes:

  • General Liability and Professional Liability

Optional coverages include:

  • Property Coverage for the shop itself and the contents inside.
  • Business Income for lost income if you can’t open after a covered loss.
  • Cyber Coverage to protect against data breaches, compromised payment systems, and other cyber incidents.
